Smile Question about Jag trim reassembly

Howdy I have a 1976 XJ6 S-II that has been in a storage garage for the last 30 years and was mid restoration when the guy who was doing it died, it had just been repainted so all of the trim is off the car, that being said, when re-applying my trim should I cut gaskets for where the metal trim touches the paint? say the rear bumper trim and lights, should I have anything under these pieces when I put them back on the car?

Hello,
Whenever you get a minute, you might want to drop by the New Members section and post an introduction.

Marker lights have special gaskets with holes from the bulbs and wires. It's easy enough to make them if they've gone AWOL. Just cut some appropriate material 1/8 inch bigger than the light all around, and make holes as mentioned.
I can't say about tail lights as my car has S3 tail lights with no gaskets.
The trunk plinth has a gasket, but again, my car has an S3 plinth so I can't help you with what the S2 gasket should look like.
Wipers have odd-looking oval gaskets.
Antenna has a gasket, but as it's only round, should be no problem.
No gaskets for door handles.
I don't think I missed anything.

Welcome to our little section of Jag Forums from ElinorB.

go to SNG BARRATT USA store, select your country and model year car, then search for "gaskets".
Illustrations of parts and their gaskets (if any) will show up on the screen.

you can buy foam sheets of the right thickness and color at stores like Joann Fabrics or Michael's in their crafts aisles.

I actually have seen gaskets for door handles. BD31998 and BD31997 for the front and rear of each handle.
