Got in my 86 XJ6 this morning, the wheel was locked and the ignition key won't turn. Desperate for quick help as I have work

 

Try turning the steering wheel slightly as you operate the ignition key.

Sometimes you need to relieve the pressure on the steering lock to be able to turn the key.

Tried that multiple times with no success

 

Try violently turning the the wheel left to right & do the same thing with the key in the tumbler, just be a little more careful, because you dont want to break the key.

Sometimes older cars just need a little rough housing.

You can also try spray lubricant (but blow it out with an air compressor, after you get it to break free)
