Default Radiator out.

I moved my car after leaving it sitting for 5 days, to find quite a decent pool of coolant where it was parked. Further checks came up with a 2 litre loss off coolant since last Sunday.
It hasn't lost any for the last few weeks since putting a cap on the overflow bottle.

I couldn't find any leaking hoses so I removed the radiator since I could see traces of evaporated coolant around the bottom of the left tank. I found a small leak at the top of the core on the left side, and a sizeable leak on the top the right side of the core. I think the leaked coolant came from the right side and found it's way to the left side before dripping on the floor. I had assumed the core was good because all the bits I could see looked like it was in pretty good nick.

Last time I drove it last Sunday we covered about 300 km and never had an issue with temp or leaks, I think I lost most of the coolant in the garage.

Will drop it off tomorrow to have it re cored and hopefully have it back for my next day off on Thursday.

So unusually cold here at the moment probably don't need a radiator. Down to 13c and it's only 8 pm

Its just 8pm and down to 6c, heading for 1c.

I been watching the Cairns temps, and they are seeing some seriously low o/night temps.

Never had 3 blankets on the bed before. Reminds me of the old country!

That snow was an hour and a half south west of here, it has no business coming this far north.

Circa 90 F's around here. In day time, mid 50 F's at night. Warm shirt feels good when Coco and I go out at about 5 AM. he to take care of business, I to get paper.
so, I can read the news from a day or so ago. newest is what I saw last evening on the TV news ???

And, I and the paper have a controversy. They say I am a few bucks, 30 or 40, in arrears. I say nope. My books show a proper payment each and every month.

Nice gal that calls under pretense, though!!!

Clarke, did you have to break into the AC to get the rad out?

Just enough room to force the radiator past hoses, it took a bit gentle persuasion but it is all in tact.

I dropped the radiator off at 5 am on my way to work, had a phone call at 9.45 saying it was ready to pick up. Can't get back there until Thursday to pick it up.

Oh good!
It looks like you didn't have to take the hood off either. I didn't know one could disconnect the safety link and let it stand up on its own or I would have done that.

Now I have to get it back on without damaging the other body work. That promises to be a Lot of fun!

Elinor:

I relegated that monkey motion "safety link" to my left overs bins years ago.
I've "enjoyed" the extra room to work under the bonnet. But, when the nose is up, It spent a lot of time in that posture, I use a prop. Good idea if exposed to a wind gust in nose down position as well

One of my Weed Whackers had a two piece shaft. Shipping reasons, I suppose.
Bad idea. The cable connection failed. Engine runs, no whack motion. took me a tad to figure that out. I had an older one with a weak engine and a one piece shaft.
Nexus. One good one and a pile of parts.

The stripped lower shaft has a neat curve and ends that fit the jaguar just right as a hood/bonnet prop.

As to removing the radiator with the AC intact. If the conversion used the jaguar dryer right in front of the top rail, it might be an issue. if the GM unit is in place in the engine bay, nope.

Is the radiator an issue?

Mine isn't now, Carl, because I took it out a few months ago to clean the bird feathers, rice straw, bees and hay seeds out of it, and have it rodding, as I could see the tubes were clogged. It's back in now, complete with trans cooler. When I fired it up last week, nothing leaked so I'm assuming I got everything on OK.

Safety link? Not on my car, and it doesn't look like anything has been removed. Maybe never had one, just tipped the rad back over the engine as I lifted it. Should have removed the fans first to make it lighter and give more room. I just assumed it was screwed on at the bottom, but they just sits in a channel(I know for next time now).

Same in my SIII. Don't miss it at all. suppose others have done that as well, on purpose or merely neglect.

if you fabricate an extended linkage you can open the hood almost 90 degrees. I haven't done it because I don't understand the drawing.
