Default rear diff plug removal

how do i get the rear diff fill plug out?

what tools? any tips?

It can be awkward. Long ago I quit fighting and resigned myself to removing the tie plate and be done with it....thus *greatly* easing access to the plug.

The plug might be a 1/2" square recess type or a square bolt type...perfectly ordinary. I'm sure you've seen both type many times

Way back when, in my full service station job, the lube rack had a tool.
It had various sizes of squares to fit the ones with the inset "hole'.


But, a 1/2" drive rachet ort bar often fits.

i found a husky socket form the 60s probably that has a square hole, 1/2 inch wide fit perfectly and needed almost no extra torque than what my 12 inch long ratchet was capable off
