Default Series 2 rad

I would like to change out the thermostat for the electric fans. Can this be done with the rad in place or do you need to pull the rad?

Not sure what you mean by changing out the thermostat and replacing with electric fans?? Do you mean changing out the mechanical fan for electric fans? My understanding of the thermostats job is to maintain a constant temperature in the engine by regulating coolant flow. That has nothing to do with whether it's a mechanical or electrical cooling fans. What are you trying to accomplish?

do you mean the Thermal Switch at the bottom right corner of the radiator?

if yes, you can try it to reach it with suitable wrench, but expect a gush of coolant on your face and head, when you finally remove it.
