Default Series 3 Fan Shroud

Hello, I'm going through the process of replacing the water pump of my 87 Vanden Plas, and I'm having trouble removing the fan shroud to access the fan. I was under the impression that this is a 2-piece part, and you should be able to remove the shroud without removing any bits from the radiator. I can't find any seams that would indicate it being 2-piece, and I also don't see a way to remove the shroud without cutting it (which doesn't seem like the correct path forward). The shroud is stamped CAC 4266. Any thoughts? This is the first project I'm undertaking by myself on this car, and I want to make sure I do it right.

I think you need to disconnect the upper and lower hoses.

One piece shroud

Earlier Ser III cars had a two piece shroud.

From memory there's no way to remove the shroud without first removing the fan. You'll just have to work inside the shroud to remove the fan from the water pump.

It might be easier if you remove the shroud brackets first, allowing the shroud to be shifted around a bit....which perhaps will ease access?

It's been too many years since I last did a water pump on a 6 cyl so I can't provide much info.

Cheers
DD

Thanks for the writeup, Doug. That seems to make sense, they was a bit of working room when I was playing around with it yesterday. I'll try again and see how far I get!

Hello, Unbolt the shroud, Slid a piece of cardboard between the radiator and the shroud, This is to protect the radiator during your next move. Unbolt the fan, wiggle off from pump. remove the fan and the shroud in one move.
