Thanks! I've been driving it for most of the time, it's only let me down once (Lucas alternator went bad, imagine that!) but that led to me finding a Jaguar specialist here. He's had a few Series IIIs and currently drives an X300 VDP, so he knows our cats well.

You got a good deal. Parts go bad, you seem to get it.

Did you replace the alternator with a GM unit?

There are many parts on these Jags that can be replaced by GM or other generic brands. This link has a nice database for referencing what to look up.

There's also a great illustrated demonstration for adding cupholders to the console, replacing the ash trays. Nicest version I've seen...haven't done it yet, though.

No, I went with a reman'd Lucas unit, Prince of Darkness reputation be damned! I want to keep it as original as possible, but if something becomes a continuing issue I'll definitely consider going non-stock.
