Default Sliding Roof adjustment

Hello all,
After repainting my car, I replaced the sliding roof seal. I reinstalled the sliding roof but no matter what I do, I can't get it to adjust properly.
Prior to installing the new seal, the sliding roof never closed properly either.
I have the control cables behind the rear seat squab disconnected but the sliding roof does not go further than shown in the attached pictures.
I have also tried adjusting the rear height to no avail.
What am I doing wrong?
If, with the control cables disconnected the roof does not move any farther than shown, How do I resolve that?

Same here....

Did you take the entire roof unit out for the repaint?
On mine, I had to push the cassette all the way forward to get the roof water tight.
Still it's not correctly seated, but at least it seals....

I think it has something to do with the cassette being pushed onto the roof to tightly, will try to fix it and report back...

I had the same problem many years ago. I had to drop the headliner to loosen and adjust the entire sunroof assembly where it bolts to the body of the car.

I think the replacements seals are thinner than the originals

Thanks Doug.
I will eventually drop the headliner and adjust the assembly. Right now I have it parked in my garage. Last year when I did the headliner I had the rear glass off the car. Will I be able to remove the headliner through the door without damaging it/ Anyone knows?

I didn't remove the headliner from the car. I just just let it drop down to access the sunroof. Awkward, but doable

Yep, that's the trick:

Drop the headliner, loosen the nuts holding the entire assembly to the car, let the roof go all the way forward and reposition the entire assembly to a good fit...
