Default Stuck in park

I saw some posts about this for newer jags but I took mine for a spin around the block earlier today. I went to move it later and I can't move the shifter out of park. Any ideas?

You are holding your foot firmly on the brake while attempting to move the lever out of Park.? Is the car parked on an incline? If so, it has probably moved against the park pawl in the transmission - quite common in the circumstance: when parking on any sort of incline the car should be brought to a complete stop, the lever put in N and check that it will not move, being held by the parking brake. Then and only the it can be put in P.
This, however does not solve the current problem. A possible solution is to have another car GENTLY push against the bumper (front if the nose of your car is downhill, rear if it is uphill) the object being to nudge the Jag a half inch or less to release pressure on the park pawl.

Another way might be to jack up a rear wheel and release torque against the pawl. And, perhaps, if you have not already tried it, start the engine, and then gently pull. Careful, some shift cable part somewhat easily!!

Been off line a tad. switched from ATT to Comcast. More complex than I thought. But, had two reasons. I'll not elaborate.

Triple play. home phone, internet and TV.

Two desk tops on line. Old laptop not yet. Enough on that for a bit.

Jaguar project in the wings. some parts here, others OTW!!

Really hot expected today. I'll hibernate. Good baseball this PM.

NASCAR road course race nearby. Hot. oh yean, super... TV blacked out, too bad.

New mag showed "Black Iron" show in NZ!!! Neat cars.

I got frustrated and came back a few hours later and it worked. I think it was the parking prawl from what you guys described. sov I have done what you said about putting it in neutral, emergency brake, then park. Has worked every time since so thanks!
