Default Thinking Out Loud

Could the UK spec chrome and black plastic bumpers on my series 3 be changed to series 1 or 2 bumpers ?

I don't like the over riders though on S1 & 2's so these would have to go

Not sure what you would need to replace as well as the bumpers, but removing the over-riders on the front would leave holes and on the back the bumper is in three parts connected by and under the over-riders. The only way round this would be get a set welded and rechromed.

Mmm I'm ok welding holes up and getting them re chromed, it's just whether they would be too wide or too narrow so would need altering

Series 1 is definitely out, but you'd probably manage with Series 2, as there is very little difference with the Series 2 at the front end, the bonnet pressing is the same whereas on the Series 1 it isn't, being deeper with a lower bumper.

Only problem may be the front wings as a Series 3 wing won't have the hole for the indicator lamp, as its in the bumper on a Series 3. You'll somehow need to make that hole, or change the wings.

Rear bumpers are all the same height, but the Series 2 introduced the 5 mph bumpers with a different fitting to Series 1 and the Series 3 is the same as the Series 2 fittings wise. US cars got the special shock absorbers, but everywhere else didnt

I replaced the wings on my Series 3 with Series 2 ones as they were cheaper. I had to get the holes for the direction indicators filled in, that's all.
