Default Unlocking the boot with the solenoid

I have a 1979 early series 3. The boot locks with the electric solenoid but does not unlock. I have read it can be wired to unlock as well as lock. My question is do I need to pull another wire from the front to the boot to do this or is there a an existing wire I can use? Anyone ever do this proceedure?

This is on my project list. If you can wait 2-3 weeks I'll let you know how it turns out. Or you go first and tell me:

My plan is to run a second wire to the unlock socket so the boot solenoid operates in both directions

Cheers

Hi Doug. Yes, that is exactly how I read you do it. I was just hoping someone would tell me there is an existing wire in there and I don't have to pull a new wire all the way back there. But before I do the boot project I plan on trying to install a Viper 211 wireless keyless entry system. Looks like the kit is available online for about $45. I have the wiring diagram for the car locks - all I have to do is find the appropriate circuit to activate the locks. Jeff
