The car is going back together at an acceptable rate, but here's where I am today. I've been eyeing the climate control vacuum reservoir as I move it around the shop and today I thought I would put it on the car somewhere. Can anyone tell me where it was when it left the factory? I don't see any mounting lugs or holes on it, so I also don't know how it was attached.
On your LHD car it was originally mounted to the left of the brake booster, sorta tucked up inside the fender. I can't remember exactly how it was mounted. I'll try to grab a pic tomorrow. Hopefully someone with a better memory will come along sooner than that
not on the wiper motor side Dave, but on the driver side.
I think it must have gone in there before they attached the fender to the car. I can't see how else, there is no obvious room to get it in there or out. I've never had to remove mine.
In my S type, the vacuum tank is mounted below the front headlight, inner fender, driver side, just like the charcoal canister is on the passenger side in XJ.
I don't think it matters where you mount it.
At the firewall or below the cruise control actuator would be perfect.
I was looking at the spot behind the brake booster on the LHD drivers side. I assumed this is where the wiper motor on a RHD car would be. You're right though, it can be put anywhere that you can get a vacuum hose to. It was loose and in a box when I bought the car so I'll have to continue being creative on this build and find a spot for it.
My car is powered as yours will soon be, Lt1. The vacuum reservoir remains as it was. space there not an issue to me. Beside the power brake booster, on the fire wall. A hemispherical tank.
Hi Dave,
Here are some pictures of how it is mounted inside the drivers fender behind the brake booster. Could not get a good shot of the complete bracket behind the tank but have one of each end. You can see the Phillips screws & plates that hold the tank to the bracket, then this is screwed to the square
brace that is part of the fender just barely visible ( it's painted ). Like mentioned above, looks like the brake booster / pedal box has to be removed to get it in or out.
The yellow dust is pollen, haven't cleaned it out today ( car port not garage )
Thanks Brian, you have cleared up two head-scratcher for me. In the assortment of loose parts that came with the car was an unknown bracket that hasn't found a home yet. I had put it in the box with the wiper motor a year ago and when I put the motor back in last week I could not make that part fit anywhere. So I put it in a bigger box that is labeled (??). That bracket is the one that holds the vacuum reservoir to the inner wing! Unfortunately, I have already installed the booster/pedal box, but after posting to Yellow series 3 about how easy it was to remove, I guess I'll have to take it back out.
Thank you very much for you time and the pictures, mystery solved.
