Default Washers for control arm bushings

Ladies and gents, please help me with a bout of brain fade.

Subject car is a Series III XJ6

I removed the lower control arms to replace the bushings. Someone has already been there before me. As you know the bushings are backed by washers. A total of 6 washers came out.

Also as you know the forward-most washer for each pivot shaft is easily identified by the small inside diameter. I have two of those, one for each shaft. So far, so good.

I also have 4 of the washers with the large inside diameter. Here's the question: Should I have 6 of these?

If I *should* have only 4 of the large-ID washers, which position on the shaft goes without a washer? The rear-most position, under the hex head of the pivot shaft?

As often as I've done this job I really should have it committed to memory....but I don't.

Many thanks
Doug

Good idea !

Unfortunately the SNG illustrations and the Jaguar/JDHT illustrations do not quite clarify the matter. JDHT shows the part numbers but not 'quantity per car'. SNG comes closest, suggesting a total of 3 washers per control arm...which agrees with what I have....but nothing to indicate which position goes washer-less !

Thanks, Jose

Doug,
No you shouldn't have 6 large washers. Below is how mine came out:

There is no washer on the bolt head.
So it goes, Bolt Head > bushing > Large Washer > Sub-frame > Large Washer > Bushing > small washer > Locking nut.

ok looks like LnrB got it cleared. I went to google, selected IMAGES, then typed 1986 xj6 lower control arm assy. Then clicked SEARCH. Got many images from many vendors.

Possibly the same ones that I looked at which, unfortunately, did not actually clarify if each lower arm used 3 or 4 washers and, if only three, which position went without a washer.

Cheers

First place I looked. My factory catalogs, I have several editions, only illustrate only 2 washers per control arm. Any additional washers are assumed but not specified, nor is placement of the washers clarified.

The SNG illustrations looked very similar to factory parts catalogs...perhaps from different editions?

The Jaguar shop manual did not clarify the matter, either....although I was able to easily put my hands on only one at the moment as the others were not near by

Cheers

I'm going to contact the mechanic who has the dealer service dept.'s manual to see if he will let me copy it.
