Default xj6 4.2 automatic series 1 BW 12

Hello ,
I have a clonking noise at low rev from the torque converter/flywheel unión in my xj6 4.2 automatic series 1 BW 12 . I think there is some kind of play between them. I tightened the 4 bolts but stills the same. I,m investigating causes but I don´t know how is the flywheel /flexplate exactly. Maybe the holes in the flexplate eroded and became too large?? Does anybody have information /pictures of the flywheel / flexplate?

Best regards,

Memory only here, so it will be fun haha.

The flywheel/flex plate is basically a heavy flywheel, not the flimsy flexplate of newer models.

The bolt holes are not known to be an issue in them, neither is the flywheel itself (except for the weight of it).

The main noises in them is the internal bearings of the 2 components of the converter, which will require it being split and rebuilt by a trans specialist.

Before condemning the converter, as they are strong suckers from that era, check the LARGE bolt at the front of the crankshaft, AND, the split cone, including the half moon keys, that mount it. These are a known knocking item, and transmission of said noise all over the engine is frustrating, and requires much drinking to stay focused.

Default flexplate driveplate loose rivets

Hello,
Thank you very much for the information. I will have to look at those points you suggest.
I have also discovered that loose flexplate rivets where a common fault in these models, apparently there are some methods to tighten /repair/substitute them without taking the transmission etc out of the car. Does anyone knows about it?
Best regards
