Default XJ6 Series 3 Engine Idling

Hi all, my XJ6 has been idling about 1200 RPM in P or N since I got the car. Today I looked for and found a few vacuum leaks at soft hoses and loose clamps. Fixing this improved things. I also adjusted the throttle plate .002" with a feeler gauge, and adjusted the idle switch.
I have not removed the IAC valve, but removed the hose which goes between it and the air distribution valve. Things look to be clean in there. I'm wondering if this valve could be adjusted in any way...?
Also, the ignition timing is at 8 degrees with my timing light, vacuum advance disconnected and line plugged. The advance with the vacuum line back on is up around 26-28 degrees on the light. Is this normal? Seems high to me. Mixture at the tail pipe is running 14 to 1 idling, 15.5 to 1 going fast...
Any thoughts?

have you trying adjusting the actual idle speed screw? It's on the air distribution block

Cheers

Yes I did....just forgot to mention it in my story...I now have the idle at 800 RPM at operating temperature, although it is a little lumpy still....
Cheers Nick
