XJ6 Series II pivot pin assembly. I removed the hub carrier To replace the wheel bearings. When I looked in the pivot pin sleeve to check the bearings I found a solid white plastic plug. All the information I can find shows that there should be bearings inside. Has anyone ever seen this type of configuration? Is it proper? Should they be returned to the standard configuration?
If that is the bottom trunnion on the hub carrier it is not correct, or at least not what Jaguar put in. The correct assembly has two roller bearings with shims used to set them up. There are also two grease seals as well.
What you are looking at is a cobble, although it may work OK ! It could be an aftermarket Polybush alternative. The amount of rotation of the roller bearings is very small, and over time can lead to brinelling of the tracks if lubrication is neglected. Polybushes are now used extensively on the aftermarket to replace various suspension bushes in a variety of cars.
