How to: Replace bulb behind trip comp/clock

I'm assuming your problem is actually the bulbs...... (and not something wrong with the circuit, or the dimmer, etc, etc)
There are 2 bulbs (from memory) on the trip computer.
To remove it, you first need to remove the 2 sets of switches on either side of it. These just pull out of the dash by pulling the wooden trin piece off. Then, reaching in through the holes in the dash (where the switches used to be) there are 2 small bolts holding the trip computer in. Loosen these then the trip computer comes out the front of the dash. It's been a while since I did mine so I can't remember if the bulbs are mounted directly on the back (like you see with an instrument pod) or if further dis-assembly is required

I replaced mine with LEDs. You will need to buy something to correct the change in light, which I did as well. I used a colored gel, like for a stage light.
The amount of heat the standard bulbs gave off was too much.
You will need two NEO5 bulbs.
You have to pop off the buttons on either side of the trip computer to access the 8mm bolts keeping the trip computer in. Once you get those off, the bulb replacements was pretty straightforward.
Again, I would recommend LED, and a saffron color light gel from an art store. It's an orange-ish color. That will convert it back to the turquoise-y light color.

No, I did not try. There are two small bulbs (that can probably be replaced with something from radio shack) that will need to be soldered on.
Be prepared to buy some kind of glass paint to paint the bulbs. The buttons will not match the display if you change them out with LEDs...which is the only way to go if you're going through the trouble.
Michael's craft store sells this type of paint. I believe "Saffron" is the color you'll want.
