Default V12 speed control

Hi, all.
My speed control has a small problem. I found out why its not working and maybe someone has the answer.

It has a connecting rod going from the throttle body to the bellow. At the bellow end it has a sort of softish white rubberlike grommet. This should hold it onto the bellow but it seems to be to soft and pulls out all the time.
Am l missing something ??

Should it be hard or soft..mine seems to be far to soft, it just pulls out of the bellow
