Default 1989 XJS A/C Clutch always engaged

I just fixed my A/C systems electrical clutch connections and new fuse.
The A/C works fine, except that when I set it to off on the HVAC control panel the clutch does not disengage.

Thanks for your assistance

I just read that having the A/C compressor running continually is the expected mode of operation as a modification was made to convertibles to run the A/C to keep cooling the fuel even if the A/C is turned off.
Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Thanks

IIRC, you are correct. The thought was with the top down the A/C would be off and therefore the fuel cooler would not be working. So when the car is on in a convertible the compressor is also on.

Thanks for confirming this JTcmks, am I right to think that is only the case when the top is down and that once the top goes up the AC will switch on and off.

I was under the impression that in the converts it's anytime the car is running, top up or down.

The opening line in the following link says it all...

Thanks, you could be right, I did not see any circuit to override the clutch when the A/C clutch when the top is up.

Cheers
