1991 facelift 16" Wheels
Anyone know why my handbook says that 16" x 7j wheels are only an option for the coupe ?
I have a 1991 ('92 model year, facelift) convertible with 15" latice and would like to fit 16" wire wheels. Do the two types really have different wheel arches and axles.....

No the axles are the same. You can fit 16" wheels, there I no issue. Just get a tire with the same (within 2%) diameter to keep your speedometer correct. There were two 16" tire sizes for the 7" wide wheels that came stock. 225/60-16 and 225/55-16. The later are smaller in diameter and will give ever so slightly better acceleration, with a smaller sidewall. Not a huge difference. Note: wire wheels are not as stiff as alloy and are about 40% heavier due to being steel, which is a trade off most are willing to make who want the look of wire wheels.

Cool Thanks.
I need new tyres and the wheels could do with a do-over. As we all know the 15" tyres are a problem and the cost of the wheel repaint....well !!
I have just got 5 16" MWS SS wires and p6000 tyres for about the same price . . . .
