I had the intake manifolds off to replace the cam cover gaskets as well as sending the injectors out to be rebuilt. Everything is back together, but now I am getting a FF17 fault code, Throttle Position Sensor. The car starts and idles but idles high. The car ran and drove fine before.
Does the TPS need to be adjusted even if nothing else was touched?
Is my throttle cable installed correctly?
Does this need to be readjusted?
Will disconnecting the battery help?
Your throttle cable has a lot of slack in it in your photo. I doubt that will affect your trouble code, but you likely aren't getting anywhere near full throttle. The cable should be very straight where it meets the pulley. Adjust it so that the slack is removed, and ensure that the throttle bodies always returns to the fully closed position when the throttle is released.
I tried it without the throttle linkage and accelerator cable hooked up and it settled into a nice idle. It still isn't perfect and withn the car new to me I will probably be taking it to a local Jaguar specialist to have it dialed in.
All you need to do is adjust the throttle linkage rods so there is no tension either way and get the slack out of the accelerator cable.
Doesn't need any special tools or expertise.
