1995 xjs broken hood release cable, how to open

Mt 1995 xjs v12 convertible's hood release cable broke. How can I open hood without damaging. I removed the grill, and front hood bolts, however, I can not slide the hood forward because of the latch locking and the hydralic support pistons that hold the hood up. Is it possible to pop the latches from the bottom, or do I have to drill through the fenders.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated?

The struts are pretty easy to remove with a small screw driver. one end is locked to the hood and the other end is locked to the inner fender. Can you pull up the hood slightly from the front and unlock the hydraulic strut from the fender end?
Then, pull out the hood.
Then, pull out the hood.
Are you sure the cable broke, and not just the cheap Ford Mondeo plastic handle? (that you can buy at a ford dealer really cheap)
I think that is a bigger weak link than the cable is, unless something is wrong with the latches. The one on my '94 broke, but the cable was fine.
