Default Is a Is 1995 XJS produced 6/94 OBD2 compliant?

I have a 1995 XJS which was produced 06/94 with the AJ16 engine. It has the OBD2 port under the left side of the dash next to the hood release. I have a check engine light on and my OBD2 scanner does not communicate with the system. Has any one else with a very early 1995 XJS or XJ6 run into this issue? Not sure how to proceed to check for codes if the OBD2 scanner will not communicate and turning on the ignition does not flash codes as indicated for checking 1994 XJS' with the AJ6 motor.

Any insight on how to proceed to pull codes would be greatly appreciated. I am sure others have run into this already. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help with this.

Quick update, after I posted this I was able to try my OBD2 scanner on another 1995 XJS with a production date of 04/95. The scanner did not communicate on this XJS either so I suspect it is my scanner. I will borrow a newer OBD2 scanner from a friend Monday and I suspect I will find out it is my scanner that is the issue. I will update after I find out. I am thinking that certain scanners can communicate with these early systems and others cannot-any experience with this?

LuvmyXJS,

Yes, all AJ16 XJS are OBD2 compliant and scanners using standard OBD2 plug should work fine. I have an early AJ16 and have no problems scanning the car. I just use a cheap ELM327 chipset bluetooth module and it's fine.

If you're seeing the problem on 2 AJ16 cars, I would suggest it may be the configuration of the scanner.

Good luck

Paul

I found out it is my OBD2 scanner that was the problem. I tried my friends scanner out tonight and worked with no problems. Who knew that all OBD2 scanners did not communicate on the 1995 XJS cars? Lesson learned.

Hello everyone,

I own a 1994 XJS and I have a "check engine" light on that I can't figure what is causing it. I Does anyone know if this year is OBDII compliant? I can't seem to find the port to plug it in.
