Default 1996 jaguar xjs abs light

To all,

Just completed replacing the front wheel bearings on my xjs…….ALL IS GOOD……. Except now the ABS light is on and won’t go off.

When I pulled the caliper off did I probably affect the sensor or is it something else I should check?

As always, thanks for your comments on problem and or possible solutions!!!!

Obviously you have checked whether the sensor was plugged back in? I’m sure the sensor has been bolted back in place tightly…. So the only other question is whether the sensor magnet was clean? This is a very expensive sensor, so I hope it hasn’t been damaged.

To all,

I think I found the issue.

The passenger side abs sensor looks to be separated from the fixed bolt head assembly. The bolt that holds it in position is tight but the sensor can be slid up and down in the cylinder. This bolt head assembly looks like the rubber that encapsulated it to the sensor has separated.

Access to the bolt for removal is not accessible.

Even though the sensor is loose in the cylinder I cannot slide it out due to the shock absorber blocking access to sensor and bolt assembly.

It looks like two(2) possibilities to get to the bolt/sensor assembly….1- remove tie rod end so the wheel/rotor assm. can be rotated out of the way or 2 remove the shock bottom bolt which should allow the shock to move up and out of the way.

If Anyone has experience with removing the sensor assembly, please let me know if I am missing anything.

Thanks

I have replaced the front sensor in the past.

I forget exactly how I did it, but I do believe unbolting of one or both ball joints were the key. Either that, or simply turning the wheel in a certain direction may get you access to that bolt.

I'm sorry, I thought I could be of more help, but I do remember it did not require as much disassembly as I thought.
