Default 1996 xjs Temp sender transducer

As I continue on with updating any issues or potential issue I am now replacing the temp sender transducer (unit that sends signal to the gauge)……..I think.

The temp gauge did not seem to be displaying the proper temp. I looked at the wire connection from the sender to the gauge. Wire and connection was very dirty and I noticed that the center portion of the sender (where the blade sticks up) seemed to move. I was thinking this was the issue.(gauge not receiving the proper signal) and displaying erratic temp. The car runs perfect and does not overheat!!

I replaced the sender transducer today thinking this will take care of the issue. After replacing the transducer and a new blade female terminal, upon turning the ignition on the gauge pegs to the RED OVERHEAT SIDE. I took the car for a spin….the gauge did not move and the cooling system was cold.

WHAT DID I DO WRONG OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES THE NEW TRANSDUCER?

Thanks as always for your input

Just because your transducer is new, does not mean it's good. Put your old one back in and see what happens.

Oh, and as temperature goes up, resistance in the sender goes down. As a result, a shorted sender would peg the gauge to hot.

Are you sure you have the correct transducer? My understanding is that they are no longer available. Could be confused as it's been a while.

I tried getting an original recently, but it was NLA. Aftermarket ones are available.

I cleaned up the old unit and reinstalled. It seems to be functioning and the gauge indicates ……..NO MORE RED LINE TEMP! Upon startup.
