Welcome to the forum! I would get the temperature gauge working ASAP - overheating these engines is a bad, bad thing.

Please post some pictures of the engine, we're not psychic

Your xjs you just bought has dual carbs? Get the temp gauge working and check out your fuel/air ratio. It may be overheating from running lean.

If that kind of work has been done, inspect everything else. Make sure the thermostats are working. A handheld IR thermometer is painfully handy with these engines.

That is a very unusual set up, certainly not stock. The sender for the temp gauge is a single wire unit on the r/h water rail toward the front, behind the thermostat.

The V-12 normally generates a lot of heat.

Is there any literature on the carb conversion that came with the car?

Default thanku all

No Mike there was no literature with car. I did come with manuals and 2 sets of Euro lights and all original parts to engine. I wish I could find who did work and ask a lot of questions. I will fix temperature gauge and let everyone know what happens. Thanku all

I almost bought a set of those intakes for my car. I think if you eliminate the Jaguar electronics the car would be more reliable.
I know the purists will disagree.

That engine looks very tidy! And a lot smaller than the standard injected one!

Nice motor!

Are the Color Tune tor testing mixture ratio in the exhaust still available and I wonder if posting on a Hot Rod site to get some feedback about setting mixtures on Holley, Rochester and Carter four barrel carbs would help determine how to tell if the mixture is lean.

Perhaps some of the guys with Series III Etype can tell you how to judge mixture by sound of the exhaust

lot of smart guys around WA and Or, you'll find some one, they seem to have a different way of doing things!

i donno about how twin 4 barrels would be for hp but a lot simpler than elec injection.

mpg may not be great, but how can 12 cylinders be economical anyway!

The guy is in Washington state and cast them himself. They are on Ebay for $1000.
I imagine they could built as much if not more HP than fuel injection.

Those manifolds have been available for some time and originally intended for marine applications IIRC.

I will still get a set. I will have V12 again someday and this will increase reliability. I prefer carb setups over fuel injection.

I drove my car to a mechanic about 10 miles and noticed temperature gauge working! It never got to the N car drives very good. I don't notice any difference between hp in carb set up. I'm getting the trunk latch fixed and car inspection. On the way my tire was flat so I stopped and had stem replaced. I Noticed all new break parts . If everything is ok I'm gonna move on to small rust repairs and then paint

Did you notice any problems with flooding from two 4bbl carbs?

Can you tell us anything about the carbs such as CFM, whether one or both have chokes, manual or electric and whether the carbs are Holley, Red Devil, etc.?
