Default 90 xjs v12 does not turn over when hot

Hello all I am new here, I have a 1990 v12 xjs convertible. I have been restoring the car. When I first get in, the car starts without any problems. After using the car and bringing it up to temp then stopping and turning off the car will not start.

It does not turn over at all, just a click. If I lift the hood and let the engine cool down after about an hour of waiting it will start right up. I did use it in the winter to just drive on good days and I noticed that even after a few hours the car always started back up after ebing tunred of in the cold weather.

I would appreciate any help you can offer on this, since spring is here and ithas already started the same problem. Thank you.

Sounds like the starter is giving up the ghost.

Ken's right. Your starter solenoid is going! Don't worry, I replaced my '91 Ford Scorpio's starter yesterday. Their cheap as chips

When it heats up the solenoid can no longer transfer the power to the drive gear. Thats why it won't turn over. That would also happen with a bad starter ground but it works when cold so...

So basically change out the starter??? And it sounds like you both agree when the car gets hot thats why it will not turn over. And when it cools down turns right over. And it always started in the winter even after it got hot. Ok I will give it a try. Thank you
