Default Alternator replacement

Can someone please tell me the secret to getting the lower alternator bolt off? I can get a socket on the bolt but can't get the ratchet on no matter what size extension I use.

Maybe I should remove the lower radiator hose??

I assume this is on a non V12 as there is no lower radiator hose around the alternator...

As I removed the AJ16 from my X300, it was a real PITA getting the bolt out even with the engine out.

Have you tried two spanners?

hmm I can't exactly recall which bolt you mean, but I recall one being a PITA. I've pulled an alternator in-car twice.

I feel like I recall having a pretty long extension at some point, on the rear of the alternator, but perhaps that was for the wiring. But maybe I had a wrench on the front and a ratchet on the back with a longass extension. Don't really recall any particular issue with the front though. I definitely didn't remove the radiator hose.

What exactly is in your way? What is your ratchet hitting?
