yes , i use a generic vacuum advance control.
been 23yrs so cant remember exattly ,but i know it was for a GM Chevy 1975/80 350 V8.
i will get a pic of it as soon as i get into storage garage!
it cost around $15. dollars back then. also my V12 is a Pre-HE distributor.

The HE vacuum capsule spec is 5-15-12 (starts at 5" Hg, all in at 15" Hg, 12 degrees maximum advance). Most engines don't provide that much vacuum advance, so I doubt a generic advance will optimise the timing.
SNG Barratt has them listed for £24.50, which is quite a bit less than $100 US. Part number is JLM519.

I just (well, 3 weeks ago) replaced mine when I was overhauling the distributor.
Even though I did not see Jagboi's post when I was researching options, I came to the same conclusion: the best deal was from SNG Barrat UK (not SNG Barrat USA!).
With current Pound/Dollar exchange rate, and even accounting for Royal Mail Postage, the new vacuum advance unit came out to be around $40. I thought it was very reasonable. The new unit is already installed and it holds vacuum!
