Default Attach Emblem

Hello,

I have a beautiful White 1994 XJS with 1,750 miles (only drive it on perfect weather days) and in better than show-room condition except for an XJS emblem on the right rear that became disatisfied with its location and fell off during a careful wash job (I'm glad it did not come off during a drive).

I tried ordering a new emblem, but Jaguar said it was no longer available.

I want to reattach the emblem myself so what is the best chemical to remove the adhesive still on the paint (without doing any damage) and the proper adhesive to reattach the emblem with? Some have advised thin black double sticky tape, but the original application was with adhesive.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, make sure the surface that the emblem to be put on must be dry and dirt free .
You can use adhesive promoters and use Loctite prior to installation . 3M is what I use and make sure weather is hot and sunny .

You can find those emblems again!

Check (1) JDHT, I swear I just saw them as a recently restocked item!
(2) Paul's Jaguar, that's where I got my replacement emblems.
(3) eBay

They're out there, you just need to do a bit of investigation. I think they'll run you about $40.

I appreciate the tips, but since I am somewhat new at this specific info would help me avoid doing any harm. I am very mechanically inclined, but have no body/paint experience.

My first task is to clean residual adhesive from the painted surface. Suggestions on what chemical or product would be most effective in leaving a clean surface without damaging the paint would help me.

Second having a specific adhesive product brand name/s and part number/s would also help guarantee a successful outcome and minimize the possibility of harm coming to this baby. ;o)

Thanks.

I managed to locate Paul's Jaguar with a search engine, but JDHT returned enough Jaguar related hits that it would help me to have more specific info.

I was surprised to discover how rapid and helpful responses were after posting assistance requests. I believe I will find this site very useful!

Thanks.

I think Goof-Off is your best bet in getting rid of residues and stuff on the car, however, others may chime in.

Here are three places to buy the badges:

NEW Jaguar silver chrome "XJS" Trunk Badge Emblem | eBay

Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for Classic Jaguars

Jaguar XJS--Badges-Decals

Just remember to share your experiences/discoveries on this forum so others may learn from you as well.
