Default BEC16244 - convertible boot to roof plastic hook

Hello all. I have just purchased for my '94 convertible a NOS cover for the roof when it’s folded down.

The ‘boot’ package did not include the BEC16244 hooks that will attach the boot to the loops on the rear of the roof - there are six of those loops at the rear of the roof itself, where the roof attaches to the rear deck. I hope that’s somewhat understandable.

Anybody have a source, or come up with a genius alternative? I don’t really have a clear idea of size, or shape (apart from the parts list / drawing on the classic parts website).

Thanks in advance.

John

John,

As you probably know, those clips haven't been available for many, many years.

Unless someone responds sooner, I'll take some measurements when I'm with my car later this week and post them with some photos.

I guess you're going to just bend up some very thin rod to shape.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks Paul - measurements and maybe a pic would be very much appreciated. I realised they weren't available.
I had thought that the clips aren't under a lot of tension, so maybe I could cut and and bend a coat hanger. I also thought about cutting down these, but not sure if they'd work:

I am well-known for over-thinking😁

John,

I don't believe those plastic tie hooks will suffice. From memory, the clips are a thicker profile than a coat hangar but I'll confirm later this week.

John,

I took a couple of photos of the hooks today.

First of all, they are REALLY rigid. It seems that the fabric loops are stitched in once the hooks are inserted. I couldn't bend mine by hand to remove them from the fabric loops. I would have to use use pliers or molegrips. So. a coat hangar definitely isn't an equivalent replacement!

Anyway, here's some pics.

Hope that helps,

Paul

Thanks for the pics and, especially, going to the trouble of providing the scale👍

I had a new hood from Paul's Jag and that has fabric loops, as does the boot I also just purchased from them. I am curious about how strong the hooks need to be, but noted your comments about how rigid they are. I will take a look around Home Depot / Lowes and Amazon; not to mention the garage😁

Thanks again for your time and trouble - very helpful.

Best, John
