Looking into the future I can't decide what colour to paint my convertible and what interior to go for. I really like the look of Dorchester grey with perhaps a red leather interior but also fancy red leather with platinum silver. The other combo I'm looking it is black paint and perhaps black leather. All would have a black roof. Just wondered what the forum thinks and any photos would be appreciated. Cheers all

 

It is all taste. I think dark colours swallow up all the lines of these cars. The creases in the body, the subtle curves. So something colourful but not flashy. Inside I a all cream. Just looks sooooooo right

Colour is a very personal and sometime cultural thing. Personally, I think Jaguars always look good in jewel tones, such as emerald green, sapphire blue and burgundy, as it contrasts nicely with the chrome.

Some markets like red interiors, such as Japan, while in North America it would generally be regarded as "lot poison", i.e. it would be a very difficult sell on the dealers lot.

One caution with a black interior on a convertible is it will get very hot in the summer!

It's your car, do what pleases you.

I've got a Dorchester Grey one and its an absolute PIA to keep Clean, as it tends to show every speck of dust and watermark.

So my own personal preference would be for a Primary Colour that is easier to keep Clean.

My Merc is Green and even if I haven't washed it for weeks it looks clean and shiny.

And I'm with Daim on the Interior, nothing looks nicer than Cream.

 

I don't favor black cars anymore. I had a black Cadillac Seville that was a pain to keep clean. There was some street construction going on in my area and I ended up washing it almost everyday for several months. I like a white or cream exterior with a tan interior. For some reason my white XJ6 stays fairly clean without excessive washing. My XJS is red with a tan interior. It seems that there are a lot of red XJSs out there.I really want a Seafrost green Jaguar next.

I love silver on these cars. I googled "xjs red interior" and saw two reds. I like both though personally I'd probably put in the brighter red. Or black. I dunno. What a difficult choice.

2. Cream color with a red interior, if you like a red interior.
3. I own #1, but if I had to pick another, I'd take the blue car. Interior on that blue car? Tan?
4. Not a fan of black or white.

 

You sure about that? Because red interiors are rare over here, especially for Jags, where beige tones dominate, followed by greys. I really wanted red myself, but can only recall seeing one or two XJSs for sale with red interiors. The older Jags and British cars (Mk II and earlier) can often have red, mind - though I think that was a global thing.

When I was toying with the idea of a Rolls Royce or Bentley, I was looking at the Japan auctions and saw quite a few with red interiors. Only place in the world I've seen that. When I go to the big British car show in Vancouver and see a RR with a red interior I start looking for the Cornes (official Japan importer of RR/Bentley) sticker on the rear window and I've never been wrong yet.

 

Here you go mate. the best colours. And its not just me saying that, this car won the JDCA Concours this year, so its official. (In OZ anyway..) BTW my wife will only have a black car, But she will gladly wash it 3-4 times a week - Nutcase!..

Just a quick comparisson of colours... My interior is cream and looks really nice in the sun AND in the dull/dark...:




And here the exterior: Arctic Blue metallic



Being a lighter colour, it shows the lines. In the day as well as at night in the dark. Darker colours just hide it all... Kind of hard to describe.

It's my personal view that pale colours go well with sharp-edged, rectangular designs, like the mid-'70s Caddys, where the subtle differences in shade along the body creases really make them stand out, and dark colours go best on rounded, curvaceous cars, where they can reflect the light to emphasize the curves.
The XJS is a sort of hybrid, with both sharp creases and curves, so a mid-tone is perhaps suited for it. Perhaps a shade on the darker side. Like Kingfisher Blue.

I think we are all bias to the the color combo of our cars, as I am toward mine, but someone mentioned Burgundy and do like that on the XJS and some other Jags, but still in all I like my XJS,s color. Granted I did change the interior color from the darker gray to a slightly lighter gray tone

Grey on grey is a timeless combination.

 

Out of curiosity, I've done a check of the used RRs currently for sale in Japan. Of the 71 listed, 7 have interiors in various shades of red. So a tenth. To be thorough, I would need to compare with those offered in other major markets, but I am too busy at the moment (deadlines looming). Also, one of the 16 XJSs for sale is red inside (which is one more than normal for what I've seen...). I am actually surprised red is not popular in North America. It certainly used to be, judging by the older cars I've seen for sale.

 

I just had a look at the Canadian listings. 74 cars for sale (new and used), none have a red interior. I think that's why the ones in Japan stood out for me, I'd never seen a red interior before on a Canadian market Rolls.
