Anyone ever cleaned the a/c expansion valve filter, as I have read on KWE blog should be done, but with no info how.

If you're getting that far into the AC system I'd just replace the expansion valve. They are not expensive, I see them for under £10

I've done lots of AC work and I have yet to come across a plugged expansion valve filter, so I don't think it's common. I'd only look at it if the AC wasn't working and my pressures were abnormally high on the discharge side and low on the suction side

Turns out the filter isn't fitted in newer expansion valves which mine is. But massive amounts of oil came out of the dryer when I removed it and let it drain, a new condenser and dryer arriveing today, I am assuming the sanden compressor will have the correct amount in it so will only add 1oz to the condenser. And a dribble to the dryer and see if that improves the cooling temp.

Well, at least the RD collected it and you are going to toss that. How was the AC working before all this?

If the new compressor comes filled I would replace the expansion valve (take everything you can out of the way to rightly access it and spray it down with penetrant for days before) and just hook it up...as is/was...

You're correct - the Sanden compressor will have the correct oil charge already in it but look for the sticker saying so before assuming. Remember that too much oil is no good either - it will limit the heat transfer abilities of the refrigerant.

Are you flushing the system while you have it apart?
