Default A/C Sight Glass

I just realized that the new drier I installed comes with a sight glass... the OEM drier does not.

I did not align the sight glass to be pointing up. Instead, its pointing at about 135 degrees (assuming 0 degrees is straight up). I can see it through the grille though.

This brings up two questions:

a. Since it's not pointing up, is it doing any good?

b. Since the OEM system does not have a sight glass, it is even useful?

Thanks.

imo it is still useful but it isn't necessary. If you ignore it, run your gauges and still pull a proper vacuum and then fill according to your gauges that sight glass isn't going to tell you anything more than your gauges ever could.

Thanks. I did do that.

I watched the gauges as well as weighed the refrigerant as it went in.

I believe I am within the weight tolerance, and on a 90 degree day, I got the high pressure side to 180F. The service manual really didn't tell me anything about what to read on the low side, so I basically ignored it. It seems to sit steadily at about 50F.
