Default Central Door Locking Issues

Hi All: I've a '95 XJS convertible - 4.0L - having some issues with the central locking/ unlocking. I just replaced the door locking module and replaced the 10A fuse up in the passenger fuse block - doors and trunk will lock or unlock once then the fuse blows ... thinking it's not a short since the fuse doesn't blow without activating system.. wondering if I could have a weak or poor actuator that is over straining the circuit...

Any suggestions would be helpful - a part from disconnecting one actuator at a time and see if the fuse still blows - any other thoughts - I'm sure this has happened to others previously...

thanks in advance

A sticking actuator could draw enough current to blow a fuse.

I think your idea of disconnecting actuators is a good start.

I have new outer door gaskets coming so I'll pull everything apart once. most of the pictures I see of door lock assemblies look pretty corroded and cruddy so I think a good cleaning and lube will make a big difference - when they are apart I can test fire the actuators and see current draw. The drivers door handle seams a bit stiff to operate with the key - I suspect that may be the side with issue.. the passenger and trunk operate very smooth.. if a new door handle assembly wasn't so expensive I might just replace ...

the outer door handle part number BEC 8977 - does this part vary from a 1991 XJ6 - the BEC 8977 is supposed to fit a '92 thru '96 XJS -

I found one for a '91 Jag VP XJ6 - that looks identical from the pictures - I would transfer my lock cylinder and my "new" gasket etc.. the '91 version looks like it has a sensor or switch on the lock mechanism thinks that's to trigger the central locks -

I just don't want to order the wrong part -

Drivers side ( left hand drive ) car by the way

There is a 1990 XJ6 at Pick n Pull on Barlow, you could go and take the handle and see if it fits the XJS. The gasket is shown as fitting the sedans only, so it is probably different.

I'll go and take a peek at it... the photos of the part sure look the same...
