Convertible Functions Problems
Hey Guys,
I'm new to this forum, forgive me if this question has already been asked and I missed it, but recently I've taken on the project of restoring my dads 1989 XJS v12 Convertible, and so far its been going pretty smooth. I just recently ran into a problem though that I cannot figure out for the life of me. All of the convertible functions do not work, the rear windows, the convertible top, none of it. I tested the fuses, they all seem to be working. My last idea would be the relays(in that trunk space behind the seat) or the convertible top control module is bad.
If any of you have run into this problem and figured it out that be a great help.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric,
Because you say that the top AND the windows don't work, then don't start with the relays, start with the basics.
To operate the top, it needs 3 pre-requisites:
- Ignition on
- Auto Selector in Park or Neutral
- Handbrake on
Of these, the handbrake contact is the most likely culprit, followed by the convertible hood switch itself.
If you do remove the switch (you can temporarily swap with one of the window switches to test) then remove the skislope and swap the contacts underneath as it's really easy to break the plastic retaining tangs if you try and remove the switch from above.
Good luck
Paul

Thanks for the suggestions paul!
Even with all of those 3 pre-requisites done still nothing, so I bet it is the switch. I actually ordered some new switches(they haven't gotten here yet) and if that is the problem I'll update you!
Thanks again,
Eric
