Default Cruise control switch

Ok so I’ve been messing with my cruise control on my 93 convertible and I found a mention about the blue pressure relief switch at the front of the 4.0 sticking for someone else and they sprayed some silicone spray inside and it worked for them. I decided to try this too as I have verified several other things actually work already. It seems it helped mine too as I can actually get it to do something! However, what actually happens is that when I flip the switch to “on” and hit set, it does nothing. However! What I’ve found is that when I flip the switch “off” the car gently starts accelerating on its own, continuing to accelerate gently until you touch the brake and it stops accelerating and “feels” like the cruise shuts off. My question is, is the switch actually supposed to be “held in position” when off? Or did the internals get switched around at some point and the “set” is to be the one held in position? I did open and clean out the switch and it seemed to only go together one way. Or am I missing something else? No, obviously I’m not using the cruise regularly until it’s fixed. Any thoughts?

Nope. "Off" is off. Cruise should absolutely disengage when you switch off.

You must have the speed set using the lever on the steering wheel. When you apply the brake, then cruise control switches off. Use "SET" to set to the last value. You must not switch to "OFF" in the meantime, the cruise control will forget everything.
According to the description, it appears that the switch is connected "in reverse".

I have "lived" with a usually non-responsive C/C d now confused. If I press switch to ON and then hold down SET, it sometimes engages. I thought the button at the end of the light switch was to RESUME the C/C. When it engages tapping the brake always shuts it off. What is the proper sequence of engaging the C/C?

The switch must not be in the "OFF" position. Press the knob on the left steering wheel lever to set the CC speed. To cancel it, depress the brake (or switch to OFF position, but CC foget setting). To reset to the original speed, press the "SET" button on the tunnel switch.
Attention, the CC has an activation switch connected to the gear lever. If it is set incorrectly (does not switch ON in position "D") and is still switched OFF, CC will never work.
Furthermore, it will not work unless the vacuum line, rubber airtight accordion and vacuum valves on the CC body are functional.
Lastly, the safety valve on the front right side of the engine (blue body) must also be functional (if fitted).

Thank you for clarifying. Seems my "process" is good, now onto the mechanicals since it is sporadic.

So the "set" on the tunnel switch doesn't set the new speed and activate the cc? You set and activate with the turnsignal switch? I thought the button on the turnsignal was more of a resume switch.

The earlier cars ( with the AE Econocruise system) have the "Set" button at the end of the turn stalk, just like Series III sedans. The later cars with a Hella system have the stalk button as resume.

In all cases, turning the switch to off should disengage the cruise and turn it off.

Ok, so sorry... My cruise control has never worked but I really want to get it to someday...I surely will if I can ever get the differential sensor, lol

Anywho,

I'm sitting in my car now.
So OFF is off...? Everything off...
ON is on and she's READY to be set.
Push the button at the rear, the spring loaded direction, and ya get a click and upon release it returns to ON... This sets the speed...at a value?

I have a RES label on my blinker stalk, LH of wheel on a U.S. car, that is RESUME or RESET? Where is the accelerate control, mid drive?
