Default Damn It!!!

There's a '91 XJS V12 on Craigslist. BRG on Biscuit. Seller says it just turned over one day and wouldn't start. $750. Driving over now to look at it.

Yeah, this won't end well

Keep you posted.

That is how I ended up with mine! craigslist for $500 BRG, biscuit, and wires. Parked since 1997 and purchased it in 2010. I offered $1000 so I could get ahead of the 40 other callers within the 2 hours it was up.

Figured even with a blown engine or bad tranny I could get my money back in selling the wheels. You won't regret it!

I ended up with an 89 XJS convertible that way. $280 and a motorcycle I could register.

Well, I didn't pull the trigger. The pics in the ad must have been from 10 years ago. Yeah Yeah, I should've taken some pics while I was there, didn't think of it till I had driven off.

Paint completely oxidized, wood shot to hell / missing. Front seats not bolted down. And of course since it won't start, no telling what else might be discovered on a test drive, I suspect lots.

Worth $750? Sure, you could part it for more than that, but I'll pass. He also has a convertible (that one is as presented in the ad) that has been lumped for $10k.

Why am I thinking of showing up at his door with $500? I'm hitting the gym.

Save it from total scrapping....spread the useful parts around to others. Even make a fair profit.

I guess it depends on the space you have to deal with it.

If no rust.....who knows....long winter nights coming up.

Start with 400 and see how it goes from there. You can part it out and make a profit

Honestly, I don't think I could bear to part it - I bet the no start is a (relatively) simple issue - fuel pump relay? - didn't hear it prime before the starter whirred. In any case, it would probably become a winter project, either to keep (this is a classic color combination) until it's valuable, or flip. Don't think I would drive it much - I like black interiors, or maybe white or silver or gray on black or mulberry.

Well, I'll sleep on it. Thanks for enabling my bad habits.

I learned alot about the XJS just parting it out and exploring. You can make a profit on parts and take it apart just so you can learn. Priceless knowledge.

OK - it's no secret that I'm not a mechanic, but I read a lot and can follow youtube videos. I understand that a running car requires 3 things:

- air
- fuel
- spark

IF - IFFFFF - I were to pick this up. I have a garage and a $100 "mechanic" set of Sears Craftsman tools LOL (they were enough to apply Kirby's fix to my Marelli distributor!!!). Guessing I would need a multimeter (and learn how to use it) - maybe some jacks from Harbor Freight, and what else?

I'm seriously asking as a complete newb. I might even take a basic mechanic course at the local community college.

[edit]

And no hate, but even if the V12 is completely shot, I won't lump it. 6 Liter and 4 speed here we come. Just like Winter.

So the paint is bad and none of the interior is good? Sounds like the perfect excuse to make a track day car
