On my 1993 6.0, the hose running from my distributor to the "extra air valve" under the back side of the left intake plenum is a bit strange. It's obviously too long (possibly replaced at some point) and has been kinked under the plenum, and has now cracked at the kinks - see below (this is the hose straightened out from under the plenum now).
Obviously I'm replacing this, but it raises a few questions.
This length isn't correct, is it? Or should it take a different route that would justify the length?
My understanding is that the distributor in the 6.0 (Marelli?) does not use vacuum for anything (advance etc), so this vacuum connection is just used to provide cooling ventilation to the distributor. As such, having a kink or a vacuum leak here wouldn't have had any effect on the running of the engine, just possible excess heat in the distributor - correct?
There are two vacuum lines running from the distributor, the other connecting just to an air filter, presumably this is just to draw cool air for ventilation. However, the orientation of the two lines on the distributor is reversed on my car versus the parts diagram. In the photo below, red runs to the "extra air valve", and blue runs to the filter. The line to the air valve is on the left as you look towards the front of the car, and the line to the filter is on the right. However, on the parts diagram below, these two are the other way round. Does this make any difference? I presume not if they're just for ventilation, but I'm not sure of the internal structure of this distributor, perhaps there's a one-way valve or some inner structure that affects cooling flow if connected incorrectly - can anyone advise on this?
It's been a very long time since I had my 94 6.0, but I don't remember an extra air hose on it.
When I had mine I had all the HT leads disconnected to replace them and changed the cap and rotor.
The filtered air line on mi9ne was to allow volatile fumes an exit.
Your 93MY from the UK might be different.
There is nothing inside the distributor for air, it`s open ports to the hoses. So what side is connected to the AAV hose and which is connected to the filter doesn't matter. Route it however is convenient.
