Fan clutch help
Hello. I have the old yellow fan adding another motivation to check out the rest of the cooling system after having changed the hoses. Good news is the radiator was replaced with a model stamped 2004 and I believe the fan clutch as well. Not sure why the fan was not. My question is how do I remove the fan clutch to get the fan off? The fan clutch has a wire spring on the front versus the bolt that goes through to the front described in the manual.
Any help is appreciated.

Look at the base of the fan clutch. There are four nuts holding the fan clutch to the engine (it's actually attached to what they call a "bearing housing"). Remove the nuts (a little tricky).
With the nuts removed the fan and clutch can be wriggled out. When you have 'em on your work bench the fan is then unbolted from the clutch (four bolts) and the fan then installed onto the new clutch.

Aside:
The spring in the center of the fan clutch means it's a "thermal clutch". It operates according to temperature. The clutch slips until the temp hits a certain point....at which point the clutch engages.
The type of clutch with the center bolt is a non-thermal clutch. It's engaged until the rpm hits a certain point....and at that point it starts to slip.
Jaguar went to the thermal type in the early 80s but not all manuals show the change.

I had to step away for a bit and pay attention to the wife and kids, but I'm back to working on the fan. I managed to get 3 of the four nuts loose, but the fourth seems to have been tightened to the point where it is against the slot the stud comes through. I can't get it to budge. Any tricks anyone knows?
Thanks.
Thanks.
It's been a long time since I did that and I do remember being able to jam the fan using a wrench maybe? I think I laid it perpendicular to the fan and was able to keep it from moving on the direction I was trying to loosen the bolt with.
I wish I could remember...

I finally took off the bearing housing which let me take the fan and clutch. The bolt was wedged in, so I wound up sawing through the stud. I left enough to back out the rest of the stud, so hopefully no big problems. Gotta love these cars. Started out looking for the voltage regulator and now I've got the whole front cleared out. I think it may have been the car's way of telling me it needed to be done.
Now on to locating those oil leaks...
