FF 16 fault code. 1992 XJS V12 Coupe
Hi all.
I had the overflow tank replaced yesterday on our 92 XJS V12 coupe and on the way home the "check engine" light came on. I checked in the handbook and FF16 is the "Air Thermistor or associated wiring".
Can someone tell me where to find the thermistor please? A photo of its location would be great.
We've owned our XJS for 11 years and like to keep in nice. It's bone white with blue leather and all original. I'll post some photos next time I wash it.
Thanks,
Stephen

FF16 = Intake air temp sensor out of range etc
The air temp sensor is on the left hand trumpet that goes into the aircleaner box. It has 2 wires going to it. As the expansion tank is very, very close by I suspect your mechanic may have dislodged the wires on the air temp sensor.
Have a look under the hood and see if the wires are still connected to the air temp sensor or not. Even if they are, it may be a good idea to unclip the connector, then reconnect it, just to make sure it's seated correctly. You should be able to feel a nice "click" when it connects properly. It's the thing circled in red in the below picture.
You will have to clear the error code. There are multiple ways of doing this, but unfortunately, the "easiest" way is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect it. If your radio has a security code, make sure you have it before you disconnect the battery. There is a "better" way to do it, but it involves taking parts off the center console to look for a wire....... so it depends on what you are more comfortable with, ie resetting the radio v's taking the car apart :-)
