Growler Mascot on bonnet removal
My first XJS came with a leaper. I thought it looked great. Then over the course of a year or two, it just began to look to phallic. I ended up buying a growler and replacing the leaper. No extra holes to cover up, nor any body or paintwork to touch up. It was a direct swap.
It's all up to preferences. I don't think it's for anyone to say what looks good on someone else's car. If you like pinstriping, have at it. If you like camaro stripes over your hood line, be my guest. Want to slap on some 20" chrome wheels with a lowered suspension, eh....well....
Personally, I love seeing what other people have done to their XJS'. It at least gives me an idea on what I might consider doing to my own car.

Maybe time for a picture! I was assuming the growler had been replaced with a leaper. But needing to have two growlers would see me requiring a body shop quote.
But like another comment earlier I fitted a leaper to my current X308. (a little black chrome one,on a black car=subtle) Looks good to me but some Jags look better without one.Like Yours.

There is a center hole that is used to screw the ornament to the hood and a second, smaller hole that accepts a 'nub' from either ornament to prevent it from spinning around.
When I removed the leaper, the growler covered up any discoloration caused by having a leaper on the car for so many years.
I have seen two versions of this; one is the large leaped with the angled base that's meant to keep it from leaping downhill. I have these on my 85 V12 coupe and my 94 v12 coupe. I think they're a nice touch.
The other is a smaller leaper meant for an xj6, which has a flatter hood. Usually someone drills two new holes and mounts it behind or right over the growler emblem. These don't look right IMHO because its leaping downhill and there are extra holes punched in the hood.
My 90 V12 coupe has just the growler, and it also looks tasteful, but I want to change it to the facelift gold emblem instead of the tarnished bronze look.
