Default Hand Brake Stuck On XJS 1985

Hi all,

I have just bought this lovely XJS 1985,
But on my return home with my new purchase.
Put the hand brake on and the car started to roll back so I put more
hand brake on and now I cant get it off, The car is stuck blocking my
drive way, I have pushed the button in on the hand brake and dropped it down but nothing someone mentioned to me that maybe I had gone over the
ratchet on the hand brake leaver any advice would be most welcome
Thanks all

Bob

Does the handle feel as though it isn't even attached to anything? If so....

Pull the handle all the way up until you feel resistance. Then push the button and let the handle drop down

Cheers

as Doug says

lift the handbrake handle to take the strain , push in the button and that will allow the handbrake to release when you lower the handle

this is a quirk of the XJS so it has a dropping handle when the handbrake is on so you don't have to climb over the handle when parked,

your MOT tester will need to know this as well

there was an original info sticker for the drivers quarter light to explain the way it works, these can be bought on ebay for a few quid
