Have people lost their minds with these prices?
......Or is this the crossroad where this car starts going up in value?
First this 96 with very low miles **but** a non working A/C for 35K dollars!:
Jaguar : XJS 2+2 Convertible 2-Door in Jaguar | eBay Motors
Then we have the 95 with almost 70K miles for 23K dollars because of the 11K dollar "restoration" (my paint job alone is costing nearly twice as much!):
Jaguar : XJS 2+2 CONVERTIBLE in Jaguar | eBay Motors
And finally we have the salvaged, flooded out 95 with 97K miles going for 4.5K dollars:
Jaguar : XJS 2-DOOR in Jaguar | eBay Motors
It would be nice if they start to appraise, but I think these people are delusional or high. For 35K I can get a low mileage 2007 or 2008 XK that still looks like the ones at the showroom today.

Don't get me wrong, I want them to appraise, not because I want to sell mine, but because I think the XJS belongs in that club. But asking 35k dollars for it is really insane.
You can still find comparable low mileage 95-96 examples in most major cities Craigslists right under 10k.
I guess the day people actually start paying those prices is the day we know the value has gone up .

I had strips torn off me one other time I commented on the price of US cars compared to here. I was just looking at prices on carsales.com.au for XJS's there are 28 cars listed (compared to 3 on ebay). There are 2 listed for under 10k both '76, one 5k and one 7k, then there are 5 listed 10-15k, 6 listed 15-20k, 2 listed 20-25k, 7 listed 25-30k, 5 listed 30-35000 and a 1981 coupe with 18000km on the clock for $40000.
I agree that most of these cars will be for sale for a very long time but this is just a snap shot of what they are asking here in Australia.
The $US and $AU are on parity.

A really nice, one-owner, very low mileage, 95-96 V12 XJS might be worth a good bit. I could see them trading in the $20 to $30k range. They're the last of the v12 line and are arguably the best of the breed.
But run-of-the-mill 4.0 six cylinders will not. They have been popping up for $8-10k for nice examples. Flogged cars continue to go for $2-5k here in Central FL.
And then there are always those who overvalue their cars for a variety of reasons. They look at the original sticker price or perhaps they had a ton of work done for a lot of $$$. Maybe they recently had new paint or a new top installed and somehow think that the price of the car should reflect that work.
In any case, as most have said, they will be sitting for quite some time.
BTW, XK8's are now cheaper than many XJS's. Around here, it's not uncommon to find 97-98 XK8 coupes and cabrios for as little as $6000.

Yep. $40k will get you into a very nice V12 DB7. $25-35k can get you into a really nice 95-97 six cylinder AM.
For example, this one currently for sale in FL:
Used 2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage For Sale in Miami, Fort Lauderdale & Hialeah, FL | SCFAB22333K303625

IMHO....
Sometimes people are not really serious about selling their car. Or, yes, as mentioned, they're delusional.
Or they're waiting (hoping? praying?) for the "right" buyer to come along who either is unaware of what these cars typically sell for or for some personal reason is willing to pay a very high price.
Or, yes, there ARE some people who think spending $10k on repairs actually adds $10k to the market value.
The large variety and popularity of internet advertising/marketing schemes available today (Ebay, AutoTrader, Craigslist, Jag club/forum listings, etc) makes it easy to expose your car to a huge number of potential buyers and even do a fair job of hitting a targeted audience. If you can't sell a used Jag in 30-45 days I'm inclined to say there's something wrong with the car or something wrong with the price.
Cheers

XJS prices
I was answering a thread regarding the matter of the reference, but it seems that this thread has disappeared, anyhow, my comments:
The gentleman who initiated the thread was talking about high prices in different countries, I would like to point out some prices I have seen here in Spain.
Source AutoScout24: Coches de ocasión, vehículos usados, coche segunda mano.
Ads:
Vehículos de ocasión : Jaguar, XJS, 4.0 AutoScout24 Anuncio del vehículo - Asked price: 62.000€.
Vehículos de ocasión : Jaguar, XJS, Convertible 4.0 AutoScout24 Anuncio del vehículo - Price 36.000€
Vehículos de ocasión : Jaguar, XJS, Convertible 5.3 V12 AutoScout24 Anuncio del vehículo - Price 27.000€
So that we can see that our cars are increasing in value in spite of the economical crisis. Other thing is, these cars would be sold in a reasonable period of time or would be announced for ever?

I remember an old joke that fits this topic.
A man stopped at a news stand to buy a news paper, and asked "how much?" as he reached in his pocket for change.
The boy answered "One million dollars please."
Bewildered, the man stared at him. "How can you possibly stay in business with those prices?"
The boy smiled. "I only have to sell ONE paper!"

Wow. That's a great deal. IMO they gave that car away. Beautiful car and great deal.
I would think a car like yours would go for a 10-13k
Now compare your perfect running ,stunning looking car for 6k to the person who wants to sell a flooded out, salvaged 95 for 4.5
But I do believe the prices will one day go up, just not now when you can still get one like yours for 6k.
