Headlamp Relay DAC 6902
#21
Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd put up a quick update on the this subject and at least give a bit of help to any other owners.
Upon swapping around the blue relays (and using a voltmeter to double check the connections) all the lights came back on perfectly! No dimming instruments, no weird headlight problems.
Now to make sure the problems didn't come back I thought I'd change out the two relays responsible for light control (if only to make sure the problem doesn't come back)
Looked on various websites for the Blue Hella DAC Relays and came across the JLM21842 versions (on SNG Barrett). These were a Jaguar upgrade as the originals let water in....
So £25 later I decided to go for it and get a full set of 5 and change them all out.
Used some contact cleaner on the connectors after removing the originals, plugged in the newer versions (which I will admit look much better made.)
Everything is now 100%
I was told by the Jaguar garage that there was a earthing fault with one of the sidelights. So investigated that and found the connector onto the sidelight bulb was loose. So sorted that as well.
So £25 for the relays a few bruised knuckles (not much space in the headlight area) and I've saved myself £350 in labour.
Now I need to find a set of front bumper blades as when I took the originals off they are solid rust from underneath. The joys of XJS ownership! haha.
Thanks for everyone for their help.

Good to hear you have it sorted Andrew. Thanks for letting us know it's resolved.
The blue Hella relays are a bit of a problem as they are not sealed. Jaguar changed to sealed black relays and issued a TSB recommending changing them if problems arise.
