Default headlight question

ok i don't have a manual and I went to change out the headlight bulbs today in my 1996 xjs and it looks like I have to take the whole assembly apart, am I missing something or is this the only way to do it?

Go through the access panel in the front of the wheelwell, behind the headlamp assy.

No special tools are required. I changed mine on my '95 a couple of weeks ago, took 5 minutes. Hope that helps
