A stab in the dark. What are symbols on the head light switch. In what position is the switch ?
One switch position allows the lamps to light up in a darkened time.
And, when one shuts down the engine, the lamps remain lit for a bit.
Might check and compare as to the driver's manual.
All might be functioning as intended!!
My first exposure to this "bell and whistle" was on buying and familiarizing myself with my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Lots of mysterious goodies on it.

Wowwww what XJS are you driving jagcad.
My '91 facelift has a switch for, off. park and mains on the left stalk which is also the main/dip(low) beam switch. The only magic thing it does is go to park light when mains switched on and l turn the ignition off.

Solved headlamps staying on!
Malc4d, I am in Southwest Georgia. Thanks Carl for the reply. The problem is with the headlight logic module relay. Apparently, the high beam switch inside the relay welded itself to the headlight relay (56 to 56A ). Omed the terminals and they are making contact. The headlight switch on the stalk was ok.
Thanks
David

Malc4d.
Neither ? My Jaguar is a 83 XJ wuzza six. Simple rotary lamp switch. No light dark wizadry or timer delay.
It is my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has those "bells and whistles". So, as a stab in the dark, I suggested that your Jaguar might be so equipped.
Apologies for leading you astray.
Carl.
