Default Help needed. Brake lights stay on and no reverse lights

Hi

Got a 1989 XJS 5.3L V12. Recently all three brake lights come on and stay on after the first turn of the ignition through when the car has been started and the reverse lights do not turn on when the car is in gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cory

What is the condition of the brake switch and its connections?

This happened to me once when I replaced a burned out taillight in I BOC, selected by comparing the dead bulb to new ones at Auto Zone. Went to Carquest, told them make & model of my car, bought cheaper bulb and all problems ceased.

How is that even possible? The power has to go through the brake light switch first, if its not depressed or stuck on for some reason, there is no power going to the back, regardless of what kind of light bulb is in the socket.

It does sound weird though for it to be impacting your reverse lights. a circuit diagram would do wonders here.
