Thanks for that fun read. Eleven years without ever washing your car -I bet that guy is wound up tight when a bug splatters his windshield. That is the kind of used car you want to buy (heck I bet he has spent hours upon hours just wiping down the jambs.

I guess some of them actually believe they might melt. I only wash my car when it is needed and the rest of the time I wipe it down etc. but to never wash a car is a bit over the top. To be honest I feel a little silly only washing my car when really needed but I have found it is a great time savor just wiping down most of the time and I know I am not introducing more water into the areas that can rust. Oh well by the time I retire I will have the time to do bang up car wash sessions-LOL!!!!!!!!.

 

I use Liquid Glass on my wood, plus on the rest of the outside of the Jag.

 

I wash mine when needed, I just take it to the local cars wash and spray it off in the bay, I start with the presoak, then wash, then rinse, I also make sure I get in and around the wheel wells good. Dry with a drying towel and chamois. As for waxing, I don't. I use Liquid Glass on the body and it is great and better than Rain X for the glass IMO. I also use it on the wood trim. I have use this polish since about 15yrs old and my dad (RIP) introduced me to it. It is great on the rims also. For quick touch ups, Liquid Glass has a product for that, the seats and other interior parts, I use McGuire spray detailer.


Oh, and the Liquid glass will deepen the shine as you put more on and not dull. And been said to protect with siffiecient coats. For hard water spots on the outside glass, I use Glass Science Glass scrub

 

The pre-soaks and detergents at commercial wash houses/bays is some seriously harsh stuff. When I was young and didn't have a place to hand wash I'd use the local wash bay, I'd bring my own bucket and soap and use the bay for water only to wet the car, fill the bucket and rinse.

 

Yes, I should have mentioned that I bucket was there also, Some yrs ago I would D R A G the hose from the hose down the back wear my garage is and wash my cars there, Did I mention my yard has an upper and lower so I have to drag the hose down it not easy when you have arthritis in knees and lower back. so now the easy way. But wax, I don't use, breaks down and wears off too quick in the Nebraska heat

 

Steer clear of dishwashing liquid as suggested - it is FULL of salt which does your paintwork no favours at all and significantly increases the prospect of corrosion. Its only use in the world of car washing is as a strip wash - to remove waxes and sealants prior to resealing and even then after you have used it give the car a through rinse.

 

Alright guys. Been a while since i posted in here but how do you guys go about doing the interior?

Just give it a good vaccum and wipe down? What do you clean the wood paneling with? Whats best for the leather? You guys discretly hang any scent?

Would love some feedback?

I use the vacuum on the carpet and on the seats I use Armor All Leather Gel and just a little pledge on a rag for the wood. In all honesty it rarely needs much cleaning because I simply sit in it and drive.

BTW, whats Pledge? Is it like a GP cleaner?

We get Armor All over here so can get that no probs.

My kids go in mine so a bit more messier. To be honest i havent cleaned the interior since i purchased it! Time flies when your havin fun!

 

Pledge is a wood furniture cleaner and wax used in NA. You probably have something similar downunder.

Well i make up for it by washing it once everytime im home. Bloody kids put sticky fingerprints on it when im out at sea lol!

 

In about 1950, I was working my way through college at a full service station. We had a covered wash rack behind the office. A hose and a bucket with well used chamois or two was all we needed. Washed top don, wheels last. Kept wet to avoid streaking with the hard West Texas water. Then, off to the front. wiped down including windows. the best chamois' used here.


No vacum, jus the blow gun, remove any pads and blow and sweep out the floor.


Black wall tires, pedals and rubber mats painted with a goop of tar dissolved in gas.
Sounds awful, but looked good???


Up til recently, I washed my critters in the driveway. A bucket of Meguir's sop/wax for lotssa suds. Work from top down. Keep wet with a hose with a spray nozzle. wooly wash mit or a scrap of heavy toweling. Wheels last.


I had several methods to dry, including an ersatz chamois. Old bath towels worked best. Then, I had an epiphany. My weed blower!!! Great. O, and best yet, just let nature do it in the shade. Up to now our water has been very soft, ad as such cars dry spot free. A good coat of wax helps. Meguir's again, a high carnauba content product.


I use the wax on the wood inside as well. Moist cloth to clean, then wax and polish.


Well, drought in progress. Hold on washing. but, when the Jeep went in for a recall, they washed and vacuumed it. It needed it. Looked great!!!


As the jaguar lives in the garage, Merely dust it with a California brush. some say that scratches, Probably, if applied heavily, but lightly, I don't see any signs of scratches.


Although some say, not to, I still use Armorall on the tires.


But, not on leather/vinyl seats. I learned that with my IHC. Much too slick!!!

When We were out Shopping this morning, We went round the Charity Shops and came across a 'Gadget' Called 'The Flash Wash System'

Which not only Sprays Shampoo on your Car but also Sprays it with a fine mist of De Ionized Water, so the Car dries without any streaks.

I don't know if anyone's got one or even ever heard of it before as I think that they stopped making these around 2005.

It is Brand New Still in the box and complete with all the Instructions and as such could be a Collectors item and only cost me £1 (bargain!)

 

I second the post about using Pledge on the wood. I wet a small section of a microfiber cloth with the Pledge, then wipe it carefully on the wood. After a few minutes, I wipe the wood again with a dry microfiber cloth.

Just thought I'd share this spray I picked up the other day at Super cheap Auto.

Its like a lacquer for your tyres and plastic bumper parts. Came up a treat:

(Just excuse my other blemishes at the moment...I'm working on the coach stripe area)

 

*Personally* I don't like "The Wet Look" for tires. They should be clean, yes, but new rubber isn't shiny like that. Wet Tire is SO overdone in these parts that it looks Cheap.
