Default Ignition control module vs ignition amplifier - same thing?

Hi

I have a 88 xjs that doesn't start and a mechanic suggested replacing the ignition amplifier.

I took a look at rock auto and only see the ignition control module. Are these the same thing? They look similar.

Thanks!

The ignition module (AC Delco # D1906) is *inside* the amplifier...together with a diode and a condenser. 'Tis the module that usually fails; easily replaceable

You can also have a totally different setup, as the Marelli ignition was started somewhere along the 88 line.

Do you have a box mounted to the left side intake manifold?

What are the symptoms? No spark at all? Weak spark?
